Process questions

What information should I have ready when I call?
The symptom in plain language, whether the outdoor fan is turning, whether any air from the vents is cool, whether there is ice or water present, the approximate age of the system, and where the equipment is located. If your thermostat shows an error code, note it exactly.
What does a technician actually measure during diagnosis?
Supply and return temperature split, static pressure, capacitor capacitance, compressor and motor amp draw, control and supply voltage, and refrigerant pressures with superheat and subcooling. Those readings distinguish an airflow problem from a charge problem from an electrical problem.
Should I approve a repair on the spot?
